THE ALLURE OF THE GODS

Antonio Marras

Roberto Capucci is to other designers as literature is to journalism. This status became official in 1982, when he announced that he would stop holding runway presentations, thus renouncing all dependence on fixed dates and seasons, shifting moods and opinions, and the moralizing of others. The Labirinto della Masone, home to FMR, is hosting an exhibition to commemorate the fortieth anniversary of that declaration. Over the years, Capucci’s creations have frequently been described as “Sculptures in Fabric.” Contending with the yielding fragility of fabrics, obliging them to stay in place and cooperate in the construction of an outfit with pleats and ribbing, has been the battle of a lifetime; and as a form took shape, colors flowed in with their stunning nuances, delicate moirés and dazzling iridescence. We are delighted to be able to rely upon brilliant fashion designer Antonio Marras, to pay a fitting homage to this atypical patriarch of Italian fashion designers.
