SHOWING GLASS
David Landau2022 is the Year of Glass: the United Nations is honoring it with this “Lifetime Achievement Award” for services rendered from the Bronze Age to today. It is being recognized as a functional and versatile material that is not only capable of being adapted to all manner of uses (many of them new, prompted by technological innovation), but one that may also be recycled numerous times. Faithful to our mission, FMR also celebrates another of its virtues: fragile beauty. We do this here with the help of David Landau, who has produced numerous fascinating exhibitions on the art of glass in Venice, at the Stanze del Vetro, an exhibition space provided by the Cini Foundation, creating worlds of transparency bathed in light. Also in this issue, we also present a series of articles dedicated to the incredible legacy of a family of Bohemian glass masters, the Blaschkas.
