THE LOVE YOU NEVER HAD

Tiziano Scarpa

“Not what it seems”: it’s an expression steeped in surreal irony, at once comic and tragic. Bertozzi & Casoni’s ceramic creations indeed toy with our senses and defy interpretation. How do we read what our eyes see? The galleries of the Masone Labyrinth are currently teeming with kiln-fired flowers that resemble faces (from their Arcimboldesque Seasons series), wise old turtles, handbags, ransacked banquet tables, abandoned shopping bags, medicine chests, and Pinocchios. The mischievous macaque monkey on the cover did not grace us with his presence: and has made off with some fine-art swag. Strega Prize-winning author Tiziano Scarpa tells us more in this story written for FMR.
