Mankind’s greatest dream – second only to immortality – has always been to fly. The two dreams, in fact, are one and the same: the aspiration to eliminate all distances in space and time, and to take in even the most distant horizons at a single glance from above. Futurism, making use of the new aerial vessels that D’Annunzio dubbed “velivoli” or “sailflyers”, set out to conquer the sky, shattering its heavenly transparency and invading its silence with a thunderous roar.
