At the edge of Barcelona, along the road that climbs up into the mountain park of Montserrat, there nestles a collection of buildings that must be seen to be appreciated: a vision, perhaps a mirage that speaks to the illusive nature of art. They are the work of an audacious, imaginative sculptor and architect, Xavier Corberó, a leading protagonist of the artistic period that elevated Catalonia to the rank of one of the capitals of Modernism. It was in the surprising twists and turns of this gigantic project constructed predominantly out of empty space that Corberó secured his legacy as a wise and lighthearted creator. Here he built with empty space, but a very specific kind of empty space. To pay him fitting tribute, we’ve ventured to give this story a title in Catalan.
